Honda Became The First Japanese Car Maker

Honda was founded by Soichiro Honday, a mechanic who developed his own idea for piston rings in 1938, after working at Art Shokai. He attempted to sell them to Toyota cars, who contracted with him. He built a facility to meet Toyota’s demands, but it was almost completely destroyed during World War II.

With what he had left in the Japanese market, Soichiro Honda created a new company. Since his country had been decimated by the war, and was starved for both cash and fuel, but still needed basic, reliable transportation, he attached an engine to a bicycle. This would be the beginning of the “Honda Reasearch Institute Company, Ltd.” While the official Japanese name remains with the company, what the rest of the world knows as the Honda Motor Company was officially founded on September 24, 1948.

Soichiro Honda quickly recovered from the losses incurred during the war by producing and selling a range of motorcycles and scooters. The American Honda Company was founded in 1958, and the first Honda motorcycle was introduced to the US market just a year later. By the 1970’s Honda was the largest producer of motorcycles around, and it retains that title. It wasn’t until 1963 that the first production vehicle from Honda that wasn’t some kind of bike, was first offered in the Japanese market. It was the T360, a small pickup truck with four different body styles and a 30 hp engine. Two months later the first Honda automobile was released - the S500 two door roaster with a 44hp engine and a 4-speed transmission, and the rear wheels were chain-driven.

In 1972, with the introduction of the Civic, Honda finally established its presence in the American automobile market, partly because it was smaller than most American cars. Later, in 1975, the Civic gained popularity because it’s engine could pass emissions tests without the addition of a catalytic converter or a smog pump, and it also offered better fuel efficiency. Later, in 1986, Honda became the first Japanese car maker to offer its own line of luxury cars. Marketed under the name Acura, these are sportier, more powerful redesigns of existing Honda cars. With the current pushes for safety and alternative fuel, Honda is already leading the way. It began selling the hybrid Insight in 1999, and now has hybrid models of its popular Civics and Accords. In addition, Honda was the first Japanese auto maker to include air bags, and it now has side-curtain airbags standard on most vehicles, and plans to add stability control features to its entire line by 2008.

Today, Honda’s Civics and Honda Accord cars, as well as the Odyssey, remain popular choices for American consumers.

Demand For Hybrid Cars Has Sharply Grown

Demand for hybrid cars for sale has sharply grown over the past three years, as pump prices continue to surge and eating a  considerable part of the household budget. Hybrid cars may not be the complete solution to rising oil prices but they are very economical, as they rely more on electricity instead of gas for power. For 2006, business conditions have remained turbulent. The current crisis in Israel and Lebanon will likely have an adverse effect on oil markets given that they are very near the world’s top oil producers. Other issues that will keep gas prices high include China’s demand, terrorist attacks on refineries and volatility in stock markets. Is 2006 finally the right time to jump on the bandwagon for hybrid cars? For 2006, the top Japanese car makers Honda cars and Toyota cars have released an impressive line of hybrid cars that have been updated to conform with the demands of the daily driver. The hybrid cars for 2006 promises more power behind the steering wheel but gas consumption will be comparable to a child guzzling a bad-tasting cough syrup.

Honda 2006 Accord Hybrid
The new Accord Hybrid from Honda is 4-door sedan ideal for families with 2-3 kids. This car comes in two trims and 5-speed automatic transmission. Overdrive option is standard equipment. For those that enjoy long and leisurely rides, Honda is offering a Accord Hybrid equipped with a Navigation system.

Both trims are powered by a standard V6, 3.0-liter, 253-horsepower engine. The Accord Hybrid is capable of 25-mpg in city driving and 34-mpg in highway driving. The Honda Accord Hybrid is well suited for the highways and boasts of excellent responsiveness and outstanding acceleration.

The 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid has been criticized for its disappointing fuel economy but lauded for its outstanding performance especially in fast-driving. The car battery used in the car is relatively low in power and supposed does not effectively maximize the hybrid technology unlike rival models. Some users have also been critical over the “rough” automatic transmission shifting between gears and poor flawed synchronization between engine and battery.

Honda 2006 Civic Hybrid
The new Honda Civic Hybrid car is a 4-door sedan ideal for small families. The vehicle comes in two trims namely the the CVT AT-PZEV w/ Navigation System and the CVT AT-PZEV. A standard I4 1.3-liter 110-horsepower hybrid engine powers the 2006 Civic Hybrid car. This model has the capability to run 49-mpg in city driving and 51-mpg in highway drives.

The 2006 Civic Hybrid car is a top-notch performer especially for who are looking for the perfect driving experience. The interior has been lauded for its attractive lay-out and design. Gas consumption is exceptional, as delivers near or slightly above its specifications.

However, the 2006 Civic Hybrid has been criticized more on its ambitious despite. The digital speedometer is a nice new touch but can be distracting especially during night drives. The Civic Hybrid only comes with rear drum brakes, which is disappointing considering that the Civic has been named car of the year.

The hand brake is also placed on odd location and will be discomforting for those with large thighs. The 2006 Civic Hybrid is a “driver’s car” and will perform best when used in the highways.

2006 Toyota Prius
Updated for 2006, the new Toyota Prius car is a 4-door sedan, ideal for small families. This hybrid car only comes in one trim has a 4-Door Liftback.

The 2006 Toyota Prius is powered with by a standard I4, 1.5-liter, hybrid engine running 110-horsepower. In city driving, the Prius can achieve 60-mpg and 51-mpg in highway driving.

The Prius features a spacious interior that can easily fit small families. Ideal for pedestrian drivers but those conscious with performance should stay away, as acceleration is slow. In addition, consumers have also been disappointed over the inability of the car to reach its advertised consumption and high price. For those tht want to save the world the Prius is great but look the other way if you want to save money.

Hybrid Car Have Enjoyed Increased Popularity Over The Years

In the past few years, technology has given us a cavalcade of “green” cars — vehicles that are supposedly more environment-friendly than your traditional set of wheels. One of these is the hybrid car, which is, simply put, a vehicle that runs on both an electric motor and a gasoline-fueled motor. A few examples include Chevrolet Tahoe cars, Toyota Pirus car, Ford Escape Hybrid car and Honda car, among others.

These vehicles have enjoyed increased popularity over the years and as its technology continues to evolve, hybrid cars have gained some new supporters even as it tries to convert its detractors. To better understand what the debate is all about, let’s take a closer look at the pros and cons of hybrid cars. Here are the advantages:

Hybrid cars are fuel-efficient. You get more miles per gallon when you’re driving a hybrid car. Hybrid cars only use up about 25% less fuel compared to traditional gas-motored cars. If you’re a certified drive junkie, hybrids let your pockets breathe more easily.

They’re friendly to the environment. Plug-in electric cars and hybrid cars have the lowest carbon emissions among today’s vehicles, with the latter being the more practical. If you don’t want to feel guilty about contributing to global warming, hybrids are for you.

Flexibility. You can use your electric motor for low speeds and when you’re ready to blaze through the highway, your gas motor will do the job for you. In both cases, you’re not expending too much energy, at least not more than what you usually need.

What about the disadvantages?
Obviously, the cost factor. The problem with new or developing technology is that it’s never cheap. Hybrid cars are no exception. True, the demand for hybrid cars for sale has increased since their introduction but prices today are still a bit high compared to non-hybrid cars.

Complexity. The more complex a system gets, the more its potential problems will be. Yes, all cars eventually go to the shop for repairs but hybrid cars, with their complex parts and all, may need far more specific repair needs and thus, more expensive repairs.

When buying a car, it’s always advisable to make a cost-benefit analysis. Do the good things outweigh the bad stuff? Is it worth it in the long run? As for hybrid cars — is it a deal or no deal? Perhaps for some motorists today, it’s too early to tell at this point. One thing’s for sure though — things are only going to get better in the future. You can count on that.

All About Development History Of The Hybrid Car

Are modern hybrid cars reinventing the wheel? Well not quite, but hybrid car developers may be going full circle. Hybrid cars are currently all the rage and this is for many reasons including economy, climate change, fuel shortages and many more forms of challenge to the motorist. The latest hybrid cars for sale are seen as a modern response to these challenges. The truth however is that the automobile manufacturing industry has been here before. So while contemplating the purchase of a new super modern hybrid, why not pause a little and reflect on the history behind today’s so called new designs?

It is not generally realized that designs for hybrid cars actually predate designs for gasoline driven cars. As early as 1665 a certain Ferdinand Verbeist is known to have been working on the concept of a self-moving wagon. This appears to have been a very basic design, based on a simple four-wheeled wagon of the day to which some form of power source was to be added. The motive power was to be steam! It is known that he was still working on his design in the late 1670’s but unfortunately no record exists to show whether he actually got it to work.

It was nearly 100 years later when Nicholas Cugnot produced a somewhat more sophisticated steam carriage that actually worked. Capable of speeds up to some six miles per hour, this vehicle proved the concept, but suffered from both not being able to create enough steam to go any faster and also not being able to carry enough fuel to go any great distance. Nonetheless, surely Nicholas can claim to have produced the first working hybrid car.

Over the next 70 years a number of designers tried various ways to overcome the known drawbacks of what came to be known as the horseless carriage and in 1839 Robert Anderson announced the electric powered car. Robert, who designed and built his car in Scotland, seemed to have made the breakthrough everyone was looking for.

Although highly acclaimed at the time, there were as always some snags to be overcome in order to increase performance and to create what today we would call a more user-friendly product. This electric car was a highly applauded innovation of its time. The main drawback with this design was the difficulty in maintaining the charge in the car’s automotive batteries. The solution to this development problem proved elusive to many pioneers of the fledgling automobile industry.

By the late 19th century, automobile engineers were experimenting with combined fuel sources less dependent on battery recharging technology. It was in 1898 that Porsche cars introduced the Lohner Electric Chaise. This was powered by a combination of electric and fuel combustion technology and on battery power alone could cover distances of up to 40 miles. The ultimate aim of realistic distances was getting closer.

Throughout the major part of the 20th century the ideas behind the hybrid car lay somewhat dormant, as availability of cheap gasoline and the advance of conventional technology for powering cars, trucks etc was fully exploited in a great transport revolution. The first decade of the 21st century however brought changes in outlook based on rising cost of oil and gasoline, together with a growing environmental awareness of such things as global warming. Development engineers combined both a gas and a battery powered engine to power what would become today’s hybrid car. This was kick started by Honda cars who introduced the lightweight two-door Honda Insight cars for sale to the American automobile marketplace. A vigorous and continuing series of developments by other manufacturers have created the range of hybrid models we know today.

In the same way that complex development of the gasoline driven car does not stop people understanding the ’simple concept’ of conventional cars, the apparently complex ideas underpinning the latest hybrid cars, should not stop the automobile purchaser from seeing the hybrid car as being just as simple to understand. The hybrid car started out as a simple, self powered, four wheeled wagon and it is still that today - About 350 years after it was first conceived!

Knowing About Hybrid Cars To Choose The Best One

Hybrid cars for sale are gaining popularity with each passing day. There are many motivating factors involved. A big point is tax incentives offered by authorities every where, secondly you are assured of huge savings over a long time frame by way of reduceds fuel costs and thirdly you get the satisfaction of contributing to the cause of environment.

Because of the increasing popularity of hybrid cars, competition is hotting up. They are now producing hybrid cars integrated with state-of-the-art technology that will enable consumers to save more on fuel, and also a car that will be able to produce low toxic emissions.

However, because of the expanding demand for hybrid cars, and also because of more and more car manufacturers that are now integrating hybrid technology in their cars, many people tend to get confused on which hybrid car to purchase. Besides, all car manufacturers promises to offer the best kind of hybrid cars in the market today. Honda cars for sale and Toyota cars for sale are two of the leading companies today that produce affordable and efficient hybrid cars.

Before choosing a hybrid car for purchase, you have to compare them closely for you to know which hybrid car is for you and which hybrid car you can benefit from more. For this first you have to compare some factors of hybrid cars in order to determine which hybrid car is better than the other.

However, for comparing hybrid cars first and foremost thing is you should have knowledge about hybrid cars, hoe it works and how you can benefit from it. First of all, hybrid cars use environment friendly source of energy, which is electricity and also gasoline. Hybrid cars are what you can describe as a cross between a conventional gasoline-powered car and an electric-powered car.

Fuel savings and power pollution is possible because hybrid cars run on electricity when it is idle. What this means is that when you are stuck in traffic, and the hybrid car is running idle, or not in motion, it will automatically switch of the gasoline engine. Therefore, the hybrid car will run purely on electricity. Once you step on the accelerator pedal, it will automatically switch on the gasoline engine again to run the car.

So, now that you know how hybrid cars work and how you can benefit from it, you now have to know how to compare hybrid cars in order to get the right kind of hybrid car for your everyday use.

Than another poiant to consider is, how you will use the car. If you have a family, it is recommended that you get an SUV hybrid vehicle. This will enable you to carry more passengers. However, you also have to consider that SUV hybrid vehicles can cost a little more than hybrid cars.

The main advantage of a hybrid car is that it is fuel efficient. You have to choose a hybrid car that is the most fuel efficient in order for you to maximize its benefits. You can ask your car dealer about the fuel efficiency of the car. They will be able to tell you how much miles a gallon it can save compared to conventional cars and other hybrid cars

Hybrid cars Have Both An Electric & A Gas Motor To Run

Filed Under (Cars) by admin on 03-10-2008

Hybrid cars have both an electric and a gas motor to run it. A common misconception is that they need to be plugged into an electric outlet to recharge the batteries, but the modern hybrid cars for sale and trucks for sale are now built to recharge themselves. The term “hybrid” of course simply means a mixture of 2 different forms; in this case electric and gas power.

The gas engines in today’s electric cars are smaller than in standard vehicles. The hybrid can run on either engine, but hybrid drivers will use both to conserve on fuel. Most hybrids primarily run on the gasoline engine, and the electric motor kicks in when more power is needed.

A neat feature in that they are designed to instantly shut off whenever the vehicle stops and restart when the driver hits the gas pedal again. In the interval, the battery keeps the lights, radio, AC/Heat and other appliances on.

Hybrid cars are virtually silent because the gasoline engine cuts off and on. This will confuse new owners who may not pay attention to the indicator lights and think the car is off when it is actually on.

Of cource, the main benefit of the hybrid car or truck is the tremendous fuel savings (up to 60 miles per gallon). This makes the hybrid a very popular choice these days and this trend will continue for years to come.

Another benefit is that they emit much fewer pollutants into the air; up to 90%cleaner than non-hybrid vehicles. Their engines are a lot more efficient and they produce fewer exhaust emissions.

Besides the government tax incentives, you may benefit from free parking at many parking lots in more environmentally ‘conscious’cities and businesses

Hybrid cars and trucks are primarily made of aluminum and plastic, which makes them much lighterand more efficient and that allows them to run efficiently on smaller, lighter engines.

But these materials don’t make them any less safe than conventional cars; the manufacturers use strategically placed special panels that reinforce the impact points thus allowing the car to better resist impacts.

Two major hybrid manufacturers are Honda cars for sale and Toyota cars for sale, but US manufacturers are catching up fast. Honda and toyota started exporting hybrid vehicles into the US in 2000 with the Honda Insight and the Toyota Prius. Both cars were commercial successes.

The trend now is to introduce hybrid sport utility vehicles that will have the power of conventional SUVs, but will be more efficient and environmentally friendly. These are expected to be very popular with today’s gas prices and high maintenance costs of regular trucks and SUVs.

Hybrid vehicles are here to stay. they are much cleaner, easier to maintain, more environmentally friendly, cheaper to operate and their cost is very similar to conventional cars and trucks.

Buying Toyota, Honda, Or GM Hybrid Cars?

Electric cars look like conventional cars aesthetically, both when it comes to exterior and interior. The same great and pretty designs are available, and friends and family will hardly be able to tell the difference. Electric cars and hybrid electric cars offer the lowest emissions available, with hybrid vehicles being the most practical. If emissions performance are an important environmental consideration, reconsider one of the hybrid cars. Electric- powered cars have many negatives and hydrogen- powered cars will take some time to hit our markets and so the best option we have today, to play a part in controlling greenhouse gas emissions, is to choose a hybrid car over other cars in future.

Electric and hybrid cars are becoming more popular given the cost of a tank of gas.

Toyota’s experimental hybrids will simply add a second nickel metal battery. Even the shops that are converting hybrids to plug-in hybrids welcomed the news about Toyota’s new test cars. Toyota began selling the Prius in the United States, in limited numbers.

Honda also makes a hybrid Civic? regular car. Honda was the first automaker in the world to market a fuel-cell-powered car. Its latest development is the FCX Concept, a next-generation vehicle that boasts a small yet highly efficient FC system. Honda has not be able to compete with the Big T in hybrid sales. One of the mistakes that Honda made with its hybrid cars is making them look just like their traditional car models.

Currently, GM is finalizing its own hybrid technology, as is Nissan. Nonetheless, Nissan will lease hybrid technology from Toyota for its upcoming Altima hybrid . Currently nearly ever major manufacturer in the world has serious plans to release new lines of hybrid cars. Whilst not all of them are betting their future on hybrid technology, most realise that in these days of increased fuel prices and better environmental knowledge consumers are looking for alternatives to gas-guzzling petrol vehicles.
